The 49ers-Packers trade for Key running back that makes sense

This Running back  doesn’t have a future with the Green Bay Packers, so the San Francisco 49ers need to capitalize on the opportunity.

After the 49ers traded Matt Brieda to the Miami Dolphins, that opened up an opportunity for Williams. The Packers recently drafted Boston College standout AJ Dillon. The 49ers could essentially replace Brieda for Williams.

Williams has never produced over 556 rushing yards in a season, but he provides versatility. In his first three seasons, he produced at least 675 yards from scrimmage. Last season, he found the endzone six times.

With Aaron Jones in a contract year, and the Packers using a second-round pick on Dillon, that makes Williams expendable.

The 49ers could likely make a trade happen by offering a 2021 sixth-round pick. That should be enough to get Williams out of Wisconsin.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is known for getting the most out of versatile players. Look at last season. En route to the Super Bowl, the 49ers relied on Brieda, Tevin Coleman, and Raheem Mostert at running back.

If the 49ers don’t act fast, another team will likely take advantage of the opportunity.
